How to get marriage visa in nepal

How to get Marriage Visa in Nepal
What if you are a foreigner getting married to a Nepali and you wish to stay in Nepal? Here is our experience on how we got our marriage certificate and marriage visa.
What you need -
For the Nepali citizen:
Nepali citizenship card (nagarikta) Needs to be genuine!
Police report/criminal record - this may or may not be needed depending on who is performing the court marriage, but it’s good to have just in case.
Proof of singleness (avivahit praman patra): this needs to be from your own hometown, and should be received less than a month before your marriage. It proves you are not already married.

For the foreigner:
passport
Proof of singleness (can be obtained from corresponding country’s embassy in Nepal)
Proof of current residence (the local “gabisa” office will give this; a signature is needed from your Nepali residence’s landlord)

IMPORTANT: Keep photocopies of EVERY document you receive, several if possible. Many of the various offices you visit will require them.

After you have all this, you can go to the CDO of the Nepali citizen’s hometown. At this point you need 3 witnesses to get your marriage certificate started. We were given 2 letters. One was for me (Nepali groom) in order to get ANOTHER police report from my hometown, this time to prove that I was an upstanding citizen, with 5 local people’s signatures.
The other was for my American fiancee, to give to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kathmandu, in order to prove that she was indeed an American citizen with no criminal record, etc. This may not be necessary for everyone; again, it depends on the person!

After the CDO visit, it will take 15 days for the certificate to be obtained. If you have to run any errands like those mentioned above, this will give you time to do it.
Then back to the CDO to obtain your certificate. At this point, you need 3 witnesses again, but they need to be from the Nepali citizen’s hometown, and they need their citizenship cards as well.
Then you should be able to get your marriage certificate!

Now, how to get the marriage visa?

You need: Nepali citizen’s citizenship card, the marriage certificate, and passport. Have photocopies of each on hand too.
They won’t give you the visa right away though - in order to make sure the certificate is genuine, the visa officer will write a letter to the CDO. If the office is very far away, like in our case, it can be faxed, but you should definitely let the CDO officer know AHEAD of time that you will be faxing the letter and require a reply - otherwise they may put up a fight or ask for a bribe, etc.
After you have the reply from the CDO, you can get the visa. The first time is 6 months’ visa, but after that, you can get 1 year visas.
This is usually $10 USD per month; much cheaper than other visas in Nepal. For a multiple entry visa, you will be required to pay an extra fee (for a year visa, about $60 USD).

This was our experience. It felt like a wild goose chase, but eventually we got it all finished!

You know Nepal’s capital is Kathmandu. Kathmandu is made up of three districts: Bhaktapur, lalitpur, and Kathmandu. Many people think Nepal is a Himalayan country, but that’s not all. Of course, there’s Mt Everest (8,848 m), but there are other very good places in Nepal, for  example: Manang is a town in the Manang District of Nepal. It is located at 28°40'0N 84°1'0E with an altitude of 3,519 metres

Mustang District, a part of Gandaki Pradesh in of northern Nepal, is one of the seventy-seven districts of Nepal. The district, with Jomsom as its headquarters, covers an area of 3,573 km² and has a population of 13,452. This is the best place for trekking in Nepal.
